Does Your Orange Juice Contain These Chemicals?

Orange Juice's 'Secret Ingredient' Worries Some Health-Minded Moms

Dec. 16, 2011

Natalya Murakhver, a New York food writer and mother of an 18-month year old daughter, loved her premium brand orange juice -- the "100 percent pure" and "not from concentrate" kind that comes in the colorful carton and tastes consistently delicious.
That is, until she said she learned from her first-time moms group that there's a "secret ingredient" in all premium orange juices that companies are not required to put on their labeling.
Now, after writing Whole Foods, she refuses to buy her favorite, "365" juice, amid uncertainty about its contents.
"One of the moms said she had read about [how the juice is made] and they held it in tanks for up to a year and it pretty much lost all of its flavor and had to be reinvigorated with these flavor packs, which are essentially chemicals," said Murakhver, 40, and co-author of "They Eat What?: A Cultural Encyclopedia of Weird and Exotic Food from around the World."

Dr. Oz Talks About Coconut Water

There is a difference in which coconut water brand you choose ...Dr. Oz proves it!

On the October 6 Dr. Oz show, coconut water brands were tested for efficacy and only 1 out of 3 brands proved worthy.

"Coconut water is used to rev up metabolism and is filled with vitamins, amino acids, and electrolytes.  If using for rehydration, only 1 in 3 have the electrolytes they advertise. O.N.E. brand had only 18% of their electrolytes (sodium and potassium).  Vita Coco didn’t hit the mark either—it only had 60 percent of electrolytes.  One brand that came up with positive marks: Zico".

How Good Nutrition Is The Key!

I found this great article about Gary Roberts (a former NHL hockey player) and his nutrition and training regimen. Again you will see what a vital role nutrition plays in your health and wellbeing as professional athlete figure out the key to success is not just training but nutrition. Read this article below from the Toronto Globe and Mail.

'Scary Gary' Roberts becomes diet guru for young NHLers
By JAMES MIRTLE
From Monday's Globe and Mail

A radical change in nutrition turned around Gary Roberts's hockey career; now he's passing on his secrets to young players

Philadelphia Flyers prospect Brayden Schenn was standing in his local grocery store recently, uncertain of what he could buy to fit in with his radical new training regimen this off-season.

So he snapped a picture of a questionable deli meat with his smart phone, sent it off to a Toronto-area number and added a brief message: "Can I eat this?"
Which is when Gary Roberts, hockey's diet guru, leapt into action.

"I spend half my time on the phone - that's the kind of texts I receive," Mr. Roberts said. "Can I eat these cold cuts? Can I eat these beans? It's pretty funny."

Since his retirement from the NHL two years ago, the 45-year-old Mr. Roberts has become almost legendary for his ability to train and pump up young prospects. His first disciple, Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos, is the perfect example: He added 15 pounds of muscle after his rookie season and led the league in goals with 51 as a sophomore.

Ever since, players have been lining up at Mr. Roberts's door - 42 pro-level players are training with him this summer - but few realize that the most extreme part of his strategy involves the kitchen instead of the gym.

How To Slow Aging

How to get great looking hair, skin and nails!
I am going to share some secrets I have discovered about how to look younger, feel younger, and have that youthful vigor everyone desires. I am sure you have heard some of what I am about to tell you before but if not, most likely it was poorly explained, went over your head, or you just didn’t care to know. I want you to know you really can look and feel younger and it isn’t that difficult. Looking and feeling younger is addressed internally and externally and I am going to explain how you can easily look and feel as much as 10 years or more younger with a few simple suggestions. Now this is not going to happen overnight and there is no magic pill or potion, so if you are a weak person and haven’t the ability to be motivated to better the quality of your life then this may not be of interest and you should be seeking other counseling. This isn’t about being selfish or conceded and the need for acceptance or any excessive self-indulgent emotion, it is about achieving happiness, wellbeing and lifelong vigor.

First and foremost you must understand the importance of the adrenals. What am I talking about you ask? Well the adrenal glands produce hormones that help our body adapt to stressful conditions. These hormones help improve oxygen and glucose supply to the muscle, but during stressful conditions the blood thickens to help heal wounds. Tea, coffee, chocolate and cigarette smoking will have the same negative effect on the body by increasing stress and speeding up the aging process.

Your skin’s health is really a great indicator of your body’s health. Eating a diet of untreated, antioxidant rich foods would benefit your skin’s health immensely. Nutrients from these foods and other supplements are important at every stage of your skin’s development. Collagen is formed when Vitamin C is converts the amino acid proline into hydroxyproline. Not only is vitamin C essential, the skin requires vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Niacin, biotin, magnesium, and zinc. Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids are also very important and you can supplement with flax oil, evening primrose oil, and borage seed oil. These oils should be cold pressed.

Here is a juicing recipe I have found that may help you improve your skin’s appearance.

Remember...Organic whenever possible!

Healthy Skin
1 apple (red)
1 cucumber
1 celery stick
2 sprigs of fresh mint
1 lemon with rind
1 small piece of ginger

Juice the above ingredients. You can add the fish oil or Udo’s Oil to this and enjoy.

Healthy Hair , Skin and Nails
1 apple (red)
1 cucumber
1 celery stick
2 sprigs of fresh mint
1 lemon with rind
1 small piece of ginger

Juice the above ingredients then combine in a blender with the following:

¼ cup almonds (soaked overnight)
¼ cup Brazil nuts
¼ cup of blueberries
1 banana
½ avocado
ice cubes

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT COCONUT WATER

Coconut water label claims questioned ....only Zico contained the stated amount of ingredients!
Coconut water, which came to fame as a celebrity health fad, has become an increasingly popular way to stay hydrated or recover after a workout.
Filled with electrolytes like sodium and magnesium, the slightly sweet water has come to be seen as a natural alternative to sports drinks like Gatorade.
That reputation may not be entirely deserved. According to a report released today by an independent health-product testing firm, the nutritional content of some brands of coconut water doesn't live up to what's on the label.
Researchers at ConsumerLab.com tested the sodium, potassium, magnesium, and sugar content of three leading brands of coconut water, and they found that only one, Zico Natural, contained the stated amount for all four ingredients.

Health.com: POM-boozled: Do health drinks live up to their labels?
The sugar and potassium content in the other two brands, Vita Coco and O.N.E., also matched the label. But the amounts of sodium and magnesium—two nutrients key to hydration—were as much as 82% and 35% lower, respectively, than the listed amount.
Since the electrolyte content is one of the main selling points of these drinks, thirsty consumers may not be getting what they paid for, says Bonnie Taub-Dix, a registered dietitian and spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association.
"When something like this becomes wildly popular, people have

I received this article by Mike Adams, NaturalNews.com and I had to let everyone see this. This is going to amaze you!

How To Improve Energy and Health

Are you taking the right supplement to increase energy and look great?
Well I have already stressed the importance of good nutritional support for your body when you want to lose weight, increase energy, or just want to improve your overall health. Your body requires important nutrients to help function at its best to help fight off disease, improve digestion, and increase your vitality.  Raw food such as fruits and vegetable are very important and when we just are unable to get enough, we really need to take a quality vitamin and mineral supplement.

Just increasing one nutrient can do so much good for your body, i.e. vitamin C helps reduce the effects of the common cold, fights against bad bacteria, viruses and infections. It is also a powerful antioxidant that helps fight of free radicals that can cause cancer and a host of other illnesses. It has also been known to lower blood pressure, helps the eyes to function properly and fight off cataracts and more. So when your body is deficient in just one nutrient it doesn’t surprise me that you can have many complications within your body.

It is important to supply quality nutrients as well. When you take a supplement it is important to use a quality brand. The multi-vitamin/mineral supplement by AOR called "Ortho-Core" may be the best multi I have found to date.  They have many other products you may want to know about and are of the highest quality from what I have experienced.
Visit their website and check out some of their amazing products.

Is Milk Bad For You?

Shocking Report Tells All about Milk and Dairy!
What they don’t want you to know about Milk & Dairy!
Despite what you have heard and read in the past from those television commercials and billboards, milk and dairy products are not the best way to get bone building calcium and just may very well be one of the reason you are having difficulty losing those extra pounds.
What about the effects of milk on the human digestive system? Milk becomes a clogging, mucus-forming mass that hardens and sticks to everything in the small intestine of the body. This makes the body’s job of digesting much more difficult. This also makes it difficult on the respiratory system as milk can be mucus forming and may make it difficult to breath efficiently especially for an athlete. Cheese also have the same effect on the body. If you must indulge, cut up the cheese and mix it in a fresh green salad. The salad will aid in the digestion and counteract some of the effects the cheese would have had on the body.

How To Boost Your Immune To Stay Healthy and Avoid Illness

How to stay young, healthy and avoid getting sick.
Life is so much more enjoyable and easier when you are healthy and energetic. This is why it is important to maintain a healthy immune system to battle off infections and disease by conquering invading organisms. The immune system is one of the most amazing and complex systems in the human body. For hundreds of years modern medicine has focused on drugs designed to destroy the invading organisms using antibiotics, anti-viral agents, and chemotherapy (which actually deplete the immune system). Antibiotics not only kill off bad bacteria but also kill off the good bacteria in the body and also in the long term create new drug-resistant strains of bacteria. These drugs may win a small battle but don’t often win the war.  This is why after taking an anti biotic or even while taking an antibiotic, it is a good idea to incorporate a probiotic (which you can pick up at your local health food store) to help restore the good bacteria.

How do you build your immune system you ask? Try looking at light exercise, your diet, and your state of mind. You don’t have to go nuts training to help improve your immune, you just need to do a light brisk walk, t’ai chi (has been proven to increase t cels by 40 percent) or even yoga. Over exertion when exercising can actually suppress the immune system. Then there is your nutrition that plays a key role. If you supply the body with those all-important nutrients, the body will heal and defend itself on all fronts. Plenty of fruits and vegetable, whole grains and a diet low in saturated fats will help. This is the reason why I enjoy juicing fruits and vegetables. It is an easy way to get all the important nutrients for a healthy immune. Then there is your state of mind. Stress, depression and grief depress the immune system so learning how to cope and deal with psychological issues and relax is very important to boosting a healthy immune system.

Your immune system relies on the intake of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid, Vitamin C and E as well as the minerals iron, zinc, magnesium and selenium.  Deficiency of these vitamins and minerals will suppress the immune system. It is a good idea to take a good high quality high strength multivitamin and mineral supplement to help boost your immune. I like to take them along with the fruits and vegetables I juice in the morning. Don’t take this subject lightly, as Louis Pasteur said on his deathbed “ the host is more important than the invader”. He didn’t realize until later in his life that strengthening the body was a more effective strategy rather then destroying the invading organism.  Make sure you don’t wait until it is too late. Start by taking a high quality multivitamin and mineral supplement. Try juicing as well, it is really not a lot of work, it easy and simple these days and the juicers are better and easier to use. Read my post living to over 100 and juicing and what type of juicer you should use.  I am in the process of testing other juicers and will be posting a more in depth post on the best juicers you can use. You will really enjoy the feeling of a healthier and more vibrant you!.

When buying fruits and vegetables you should always try to buy organic. The health benefits of fruits and vegetables are very important to the body. If you are unable to purchase organic, then try locally conventionally grown produce. It’s better than not eating them at all. You can visit their site for a full list of fruits and vegetables at www.foodnews.org and see their "dirty dozen" and their "clean 15".
